Domain Troubleshooting
Having issues connecting your domain? Here are solutions to the most common problems.
"Domain not verified" or "DNS not found"
This usually means DNS changes haven't propagated yet, or the records aren't configured correctly.
What to check:
- Wait for propagation — DNS changes can take up to 48 hours (though usually much faster). Check back in an hour.
- Verify your records — Use dnschecker.org to check if your DNS records are visible worldwide:
- Search for your domain with record type "A" — should show our IP address
- Search for
www.yourdomain.comwith record type "CNAME" — should showsites.redopage.com
- Check for typos — Double-check that you entered the exact values from your Redo dashboard. Common mistakes:
- Extra spaces or periods
- Wrong IP address
- Using
sites.redopage.com.(with trailing dot) instead ofsites.redopage.com
"SSL certificate error" or "Connection not secure"
SSL certificates are provisioned automatically once DNS is properly configured. Issues usually resolve themselves.
What to check:
- Wait 10-15 minutes — After DNS propagates, SSL certificates are issued automatically. This can take up to 15 minutes.
- Clear your browser cache — Sometimes browsers cache old certificate information. Try:
- Opening your site in an incognito/private window
- Hard refreshing with
Ctrl+Shift+R(Windows) orCmd+Shift+R(Mac)
- If using Cloudflare — Make sure proxy is disabled (gray cloud, not orange). Cloudflare's proxy can interfere with our SSL.
"This site can't be reached" or "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN"
This error means your domain isn't pointing anywhere. The DNS records likely aren't set up yet.
What to check:
- Did you save your DNS changes? — Some registrars require clicking "Save" or "Apply" after adding records.
- Are you editing the right domain? — If you own multiple domains, make sure you're adding records to the correct one.
- Did you add both records? — You need both the A record (for the root domain) and the CNAME record (for www).
"Site shows old content" or "Wrong website appears"
Your domain may still be pointing to an old hosting provider.
What to check:
- Remove old DNS records — If you previously had this domain with another host (Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, etc.), you may have old A records or CNAME records that need to be deleted before adding ours.
- Check for conflicts — You can only have one A record for your root domain. If there are multiple, delete the old ones.
- Wait and clear cache — DNS changes can take time, and your browser may be caching the old site.
"www works but root domain doesn't" (or vice versa)
This happens when only one of the two required DNS records is configured.
| If this works... | But this doesn't... | You're missing... |
|---|---|---|
www.yourdomain.com | yourdomain.com | A record for @ |
yourdomain.com | www.yourdomain.com | CNAME record for www |
Go back to your registrar and add the missing record.
"Domain already in use" error
This means the domain is connected to another Redo site (possibly an old project or a different account).
How to fix:
- Check your other sites — Log into Redo and check if this domain is connected to another site in your account. Remove it there first.
- Contact support — If you can't find where the domain is connected, reach out to us and we can help locate and release it.
Common Registrar-Specific Issues
GoDaddy
- GoDaddy may have "Parked" or "Forwarding" settings enabled by default. Disable these in Domain Settings before adding DNS records.
- If you see "This domain is parked free," you need to disable domain parking.
Namecheap
- Make sure "DNS" is not set to "Custom DNS" pointing to another provider. It should be "Namecheap BasicDNS" or "Namecheap Web Hosting DNS" for the records to work.
Cloudflare
- Set proxy status to "DNS only" (gray cloud). The orange cloud (Proxied) can cause SSL conflicts.
- If you want to use Cloudflare's CDN, contact us for advanced setup instructions.
Squarespace Domains (formerly Google Domains)
- After the Google Domains migration, you may need to re-authenticate at domains.squarespace.com.
- DNS settings are now under the domain → "DNS" → "DNS Settings" menu.
How Long Should DNS Take?
Here's a realistic timeline for what to expect:
- Cloudflare: Usually instant to 5 minutes
- Namecheap: 5-30 minutes typical, up to 24 hours
- GoDaddy: 15 minutes to 24 hours
- Squarespace: 30 minutes to 48 hours
- Other registrars: Typically 1-48 hours
